January 15, 2012: New Year, different story – Francis MacManus Short Story Competition

Taking a break from my new year’s vow to conduct all important business on horseback, I’ve entered this short story competition that looks very promising. Each year the winning and shortlisted entries are read out on RTÉ Radio 1 (by professionals, thankfully *vociferously shy authors take in deep a sight of relief and commit their feelings to paper*) as well as there being cash prizes for the best on show. Cha Ching!

It seems well worth entering. Competition deadline is January 20th so get writing! Also, it is a postal entry only so you’re gonna have to dust off your printing apparatus and rattle the last remaining ink from her lungs. In the words of Wayne Campbell – Denied!

The standard seems to be pretty high, going by previous entries, and I’m hoping to make the shortlist. And if not there’s always this… WIN WIN!

You can download the entry form here.

Best of luck with it :)

Sept 06, 2011 – Long shot, short story…

Having been sent word of this short story competition last week, Shane is currently spending all of his time in his Northside Imaginarium (writing dungeon) coming up with ideas for a worthy entry.

The 6,000 word  word count is, ultimately, a satisfying length for a well endowed short and should leave plenty of elbow room for some nice character work and plot building. And friction, we must have friction!

Those interested in entering should check out The Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award page

Hope to see you at the award ceremony :)

May 04, 2011: Amazonian Basing…

Shane is currently writing a novella set in the Amazon Basin, which will be released each Saturday. The story follows a young AD named Poe, as he blindly follows documentary make Daniel Chambers into the heart of the Amazon jungle in search of the mysterious Atobi tribe – whose near extinction and disappearance takes second place to the peril they find themselves immersed in.

Excerpts will appear on the site each Saturday, so keep checking in.
